Week of Hope
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

On the tenth anniversary of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building bombing in Oklahoma City a team of eight Tape Artists from Providence, Rhode Island drove out to the heartland. For one week we volunteered to teach in organizations throughout the city while simultaneously creating a 250 foot long drawing in conjunction with the National Memorial’s theme ‘Week of Hope’. In the course of five days we provided workshops and collaborations with: senior homes, children hospitals, schools for the deaf, teacher training sessions, boy’s homes, schools for autistic learners, workforce training centers, the Oklahoma City arts festival, centers for adults with disabilities, and gave presentations at the Untitled Art Gallery. The ongoing mural was divided into five sections, each based on the different themes dedicated to those workdays. Starting from the far right side of the mural, with each day broken up by tall trees, the themes were: sharing, remembrance, kindness, tolerance, and caring.
