Workforce Recovery a Reinvestment Act

Between July 6th and August 28th the city of Providence is orchestrating a spontaneous workforce of over 600 city youth between the ages of 14 and 24. Each individual will be able to choose from a wide range of organizations throughout the city and a select few will be paired up with working artists. The Providence Department of Art, Culture + Tourism is managing this Summer Youth Employment program and have opened slots for a dozen participants to work with us.

As contributors to the Workforce Reinvestment Act, we have taken on twelve employees ranging in age from fourteen to twenty. We hope to impart some of our knowledge about how to be a good worker and introduce the participants to a wide variety of applicable job skills.

Our Workforce Recovery Plan

Each of the eight weeks are themed. These themes coincide with stages to solve a rubik cube. The rubik cube was implemented not only as a mechanism to help the employees stay focused but also represents qualities which are desirable for employment.

If you can solve the rubiks cube, what are some of the things that that says about you?
What qualities do you need to possess in order to be able to make all six sides the same color?

Solving a rubiks cube says you are:
Someone with determination
Someone with a sense of humor
Someone with patience
Someone who can memorize patterns/ideas
Someone who can focus
Someone who is good at problem solving
Someone who might, just might, be a genius

The list of qualities above are enough to make you a very attractive candidate for employment.
